Ice Age Alaskan Malamutes
To better validate our health screening program starting in Aug. of 2008 we will start doing only VPI health check on all the dogs in our breeding program, for ALL health checks not just hips/elbows! A personal scanner has been purchased and we will be using this to prove that we have the same dog in hand as on paper. All our dogs are micro chipped for permanent ID!

We give a 5yr health Guarentee, a 1yr health Guarantee is as good as No Guarantee at all!!!
Hips and Elbows are Guaranteed for 5yrs and must be sent into the OFA after 2yrs and before 3yrs of age. The OFA will not give a clearance number to a dog under 2yrs of age, anything at a younger age is only a prelim, if a dog has a prelim it may or may not be on the OFFA web site, but a hard copy should be available from the breeder of clearance.
>We are currently doing health checks on Hips, Elbows, and Patella X-Rays are >sent into the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) for >evaluation, results can be found at http://offa.org/search.html
Eyes are Guaranteed for PRA. Eyes should start to be checked at 18 months old by Cert. Vet. Ophthalmologists.
>We have eyes checked yearly by a board certified, veterinary >ophthalmologists and results can be seen on the OFFA web site at www.offa.org
We give a 5yr Cardio (Heart) Guarantee against Hereditary Defects. Cardio exams must be done by a board certified Cardiologist, starting after 1yr of age. The OFA will not take a Cardio clearance before the age of 1yr.
>We started doing Cardio checks in early 2007 and now all the dogs >in our breeding program have their cardio clearance done yearly by >a board certified Cardiologist, results can be found at >http://offa.org/search.html .
We Guarantee against Polyneuropathy - PN.
>Polyneuropathy in dogs and cats is a collection of peripheral nerve disorders >that often are breed-related in these animals. Polyneuropathy indicates that >multiple nerves are involved, unlike mononeuropathy. Polyneuropathy usually >involves motor nerve dysfunction, also known as lower motor neuron disease. >Symptoms include decreased or absent reflexes and muscle tone, weakness, or >paralysis. It often occurs in the rear legs and is bilateral. Most are chronic >problems with a slow onset of symptoms, but some occur suddenly.
All our breeding stock has been DNA test to be free of Polyneuropathy and are non-carriers, they do not have the gene to produce and effected or pass the gen onto their offspring.
We also Guarantee against CHD (Dwarfism).
>Chondrodysplasia is a genetic disorder in the Alaskan Malamute >which >manifests itself in puppies born with crippling deformities, >eventually >evident in the abnormal shape and length of their limbs.
We also have AKC DNA Profiles done on all dogs in our breeding program, there is no question as to the Sire and Dam of our pups! If for any reason you need to validate the parentage of any of our pups, a swab can be sent into the AKC for a DNA profile. Test kits can be obtained through the AKC.
We breed on a limited basis and make our breeding selection based off of structure, movement, breed type, temperament and overall good health! We go out of our way to prove that our dogs are of the highest quality and health before we produce the next generation!
