A Visitor asked the following question on 12/28/2004
I currently have a male LH miniature, and have the opportunity to purchase a beautiful female SH miniature. My husband thinks breeding a LH with a SH will produce substandard pups, and the seller of the female says breeding them would be fine. Having never bred our male before, I am unsure. Can somebody give me a basic answer to this one?

The very basic question would be what does your female carry (LH or SM), and what are you wanting Smoothes or Longs? Just my opinion!

If the smooth hair does not carry the long hair gene then all pups will be smooth hair, but the pups will carry for both coats.
Please think twice about going into breeding. It is a big responsiblity and before starting so you need to study up some to learn what is acceptable and what is not.
