10/27/07 I weigh my puppies every days for a week or 2, to make sure they are getting good nutrition from the mom. I'm sure you are able to tell by the size? They grow pretty quick the 1st week. Fat little bellies and skin rolls. If you think the puppy is not gaining wgt, I would call the vet and ask what you should do. Some dachshunds are clingy. I have one. On her 1st litter, she was torn between sitting with me or taking care of her puppies. I'm a little embarrassed about it, but I brought her and the puppies to my lap. It limited me getting housework done, but everyone was happy. After a while, the mom got more comfortable leaving the pups a little while at the time. Also, I handle the puppies every day. I have to change their bedding and get things cleaned up, so I take that opportunity for a cuddle or two. Right or wrong? I don't know, but it's never harmed them or the mom. John & Karen
