A Visitor asked the following question on 11/2/2006
My 15 year old has an impacted anal gland. It is now the size of a half dollar. Vet says removal will cause damage to sphincter, and she will no longer have control of function. I don't want her to suffer, so she is on pain med to keep her from chewing the area. Vet says mass will continue to grow until she has to be put to sleep. She acts like a 5 year old, so this is difficult. Any thoughts?

Get a second opinion. Impacted anal glands shouldn't be the end of your dogs life. They can be treated.
