A Visitor asked the following question on 10/27/2006
I have a 2 year old female who just came out of heat. I also have a 10 month old male. The two mated several times and there were ties. My question is how can I be sure that the male dachshund is mature. Is there a certain age that the males have to be before they produce sperm? Can you tell by appearance because his testicles have already dropped? Anyways I just wanted to know so I can be prepared for puppies to arrive.

11/1/06 These are not questions you should be asking AFTER a breeding has occurred. It is not appropriate to be allowing a 10 month old dog to breed. Please do your research prior to ever breeding again and bring your bitch to a veterinarian to advise you further on pregnancy and whelping. Andria

11/21/06 AKC acknowledges 7 months old as a mature age for a stud. Mine were a year old before they breed. I should think you will have puppies--usually takes 63 days from breeding if it took. Ra Vae

11/21/06 Yes, you can definatley tell by appearance that they have dropped. You can not tell if productive until after puppies have arrived. Ra Vae
