About how big are dachshunds pups when they are newborn? I know it depends on the size of the parents one is 9 pounds and the other is 11 pounds. Still have about 2 to 3 weeks until pups would be whelped, but the female does not seem to be gaining very much weight. Her nipples look a little bigger but other than that still not sure that she is going to have pups.

Don't know that I can directly answer the "how big" question but would suggest that, if you haven't already done so, have her x-rayed to see how many pups to expect. We had 2, one at 8am, the 2nd at 10:30am. We were one step short of taking her to the vet for the second pup because she was really tired by the time the 2nd one arrived. (She's 8-9 pounds.) Your vet can give you a better idea as to how long she should be in labor before you get concerned. Hope this helps.

Puppies usually range from 4-7oz. each. I have had them from 2.5-8oz.
