Cubanitos Havanese
Breed: Havanese | Member Since 7/29/2005
When I decided to become a breeder I knew that my goal above all others was health. Yes, a dog should be selected for beauty and temperament but ensuring that the dogs you breed are healthy is above all the most important. What have I done to ensure that?
I have selected and tested my breeding stock to ensure that every breeding has been seriously considered and it's in the best long term interest of the breed.
I keep in touch with the owners of my dogs to ensure that my dogs parents, grandparents and when possible great grandparents are well. After all, healthy family usually is an indication of offspring health.
I stay in touch with my puppy buyers to ensure I am notified of any illnesses.
I annualy CERF all my dogs (Eye screen for Juvenile cataracts)
Our vet has done complete panel bloodwork to ensure their health, as well as bile acid testing.
He also checks their Patellas, and cardiac.
We have x-rays on hips for all dogs over the age of 2
We soap up our dogs to ensure they have straight legs and no CD
We BAER test our breeding stock (hearing test)
I also feed good quality kibble, I keep my dogs clean, in a clean environment, and I ensure their emotional health by loving them, enjoying them EVERYday and engaging them in play because after all that is what Havanese are for! To love, play with and enjoy.
