Chandhara
Breed: Afghan Hound | Member Since 3/21/2004
No "genetic testing" is yet available for the Afghan Hound. All tests and examinations are limited to the presence or absence of observable defects. Until such time as DNA testing is available the selection of breeding partners has to include "playing safe" based upon available knowledge.
Dogs from this kennel have been subjected to hip x-rays and eye exams since before OFA and CERF certification became an accepted protocol, in the past with random samples being sent for certification. None have failed. Now all adult show/breeding stock have x-rays sent to OFA for certification, and submissions to OFA have resulted in a high proportion with an excellent rating, in fact, higher than the breed average. Search the OFA website www.offa.org for Chandhara to see the full list of results.
