At Ruger Dachshunds, we selectively breed for health, type, temperament and hunting ability in miniature wires and smooths exclusively. We feel that the attributes that we want in dogs that show are the same attributes that people DESERVE in their well bred pets...good, stable temperaments coupled with good conformation and health. We regularly show and finish titles in all AKC venues in which Dachshunds are eligible to compete. We feel that showing helps to provide an unbiased third party opinion of both our dogs' structure and their temperaments. We check patellas (knees) and eyes on all of our dogs used for breeding and their progeny, regardless of whether they are pups destined for pet or show. We register those results with CERF and OFA. We don't breed for profit; any monies go back into our dogs in terms of showing, health testing, training, breeding, feeding etc. Dachshunds are our passion; we do not see ourselves as a business where profit is our main motivator. Happy, smart, healthy Dachshunds are our only motivation. We are happy to refer you to other reputable breeders and reputable Rescue should we not have a puppy that is right for your situation. There are LOTS of good, ethical breeders that do not advertise on web sites such as this...in fact, most of them do not. *That* is why we are here...we are infrequent breeders, but we will help you find the right breeders. We provide support and advice, to the best of our ability, for ALL Dachshund owners.
