It is a must to know that your line, and breeding program is free and clear of any genetic problems that could be passed on to its offspring. We do genetic testing for the following: hip dysphasia, thyroid, von Willebrand’s disease vWD, an inherited bleeding disorder, eyes are checked and graded by an ophthalmolist, to make sure there are no eye abnormalities present. Shelties can also fall victim to a very serious skin disorder called Dermatomyositis DM. This too is hereditary! We limit our breeding program only to a dog that has had these test performed also.
