Thank you for purchasing a puppy. Along with your puppy comes a lot of responsibility. The following is a list that you should follow to get the most out of your new family member.
1) Spoil your puppy but do not let him get away with whatever he wants. Do not allow him to do anything that you do not want him to do as an adult.
2) Please get into a puppy training class as soon as possible. Socialization is the key. They will still protect you if they are friendly. You do not want a dog that is not good with children and other dogs.
3) Make sure you dominate your Chessie. This is done in a loving manner. Please make sure all members of the household do this. It is important that the children take part in the training as well.
4) Take your puppy to the Vet as soon as possible for a full physical. They have already received their first shots and deworming, but your Vet does not know me or the type of breeder I am, so he will not want you to take anything for granted. That is something to respect your Vet for.
5) Please be sure to clean the puppy’s ears consistently. They are prone to yeast infections. I use cotton and treat any infection with Panalog or Ottomax if necessary.
6) Please feed a complete and balanced diet. Putting the pup on puppy food till 6 months of age. The brands I recommend are Science Diet, IAMS, Diamond or Pedigree.
7) Keep your pup on vitamin C and vitamin E (or oil) through out their life to keep a good coat.
8) If the need arises that you must place your dog with someone else please make me aware of it for my record keeping.
9) This dog is leaving my home healthy, but that does not guarantee unforeseen issues could happen. If there is a medical problem please make me aware of it.
10) I do guarantee their hips and eyes against P.R.A. Again genetically their parents are clear on hips and eyes but things can creep up. If there is a genetic problem with your dog I will replace that puppy with a puppy from my next liter.
11) Monetary reimbursements are not provided. Genetic problems are my responsibility. Improper upbringing is not the fault of the breeding. If an owner feels that a dog is not right mentally a collegue and I will evaluate the validity of that claim. Not being housebroken or chewing things is not a sufficient reason to return the puppy, and expect to get a new one in return.
12) Please DO NOT neuter your puppy until you are sure that you are happy with him/her. Their value to me decreases and they may be harder to place if they are already neutered.
Thank you and I wish you well with your new puppy,
Robyn Haskin
