This normally happens when we are eating and we make her stay out of the area. She tries to get close and is quite pushy, so we push her away and say no. When we do this she backs up, tries again and fails, and then stares at us and barks - for about a minute. Its high pitched, an excited bark, but annoying none the less. We have been ignoring her, and she does give up for a moment, but then she runs for us and the food, we push her away and it starts again. I realise it takes time - I have no problem with that - I just want to make sure I am heading in the right direction.

Thanks so much - I love this site!

Crate the dog at meal time and give her a great bone to chew on or some other wonderful treat. Baby gates are another option. Section off an area for her to be in while the family eats.

What my family does is show the dog who is boss by staring the dog down and rewarding it when it gives up and backs down.80Sheeva
