Just Me

I have 5 dogs. The first 4 have been together for at least 3 years. No problems. I have a Border Collie/aussie mix who is the softest, sweetest dog ever. I adore him and he is incredibly bonded to me. Last year I added a 6 year old Border Collie to the mix. He's been with other dogs all his life. He came from an abusive situation and is very timid and needy.

Flee has been very unhappy and jealous of the new Border Collie. Whenever I give Bob attention Flee just sits across the room and looks at me with his ears down and the most hangdog expression. Sometimes he goes into another room to sleep.

I exercise them all together in a big open area. Splitting them up is not an option. With my job and 5 dogs I would have no life. I throw the ball for Bob and Flee. The competition has gotten very agressive to get the ball. Bob has got a 1" long cut on his nose from a battle over the ball. They try to snatch the ball from each other's mouth. Lately, things have gotten worse. Almost, but not quite fights. I've tried not taking the ball along on the walk but its too late now.

I don't know how to stop the behaviour, they are clear across the field from me when these set to's take place.

You had 4 dogs and a busy schedule that didn't allow for individual time for them, so you decided to add another dog into the mix? Smart. You now have 5 dogs and need to step up your ownership. Don't they all deserve personal time with you? Seperate Bob and Flee and give them each attention. Don't take the ball if they are both together - it's not a hard choice. The dogs fight over the ball, the ball doesn't go.
