Hi! I have a 2 year old Boston Terrier, She is currently pregnant and due December 24,2008. She has had some slimy discharge a few times and seems to be very restless. I have read up on dog labors and how long it takes for the puppies to come but I have a few questions that I cannot find answers to. Could someone please help.

1. Will she go into labor while I am sleeping during the night?
2. How can I tell how many pups she will have?
3. Is it ok for me to try comforting her by rubbing her belly gently?
4. Will she make any noise when she goes into labor?
5. Is it possible to have a still born pup if she is healthy?
6. She jumps sometimes up and down, usually when she is excited, Is this ok for her to do?
7. If she lays on her stomach on her own is this ok?

Thanks for all your help please email me at gimaney21@yahoo.com

sigh....if you do not know the answers to those questions, then you never should have bred your dog.

Boston Terriers are one of the breeds that are known for having to have C-Sections. IF you have plans to sleep when she is due then you really should not have bred her.

My suggestion is you take her to a vet and have them answer your questions. You might find the information about C-sections, and how much they cost, very enlightening, along with getting up every 2 hours for 3 weeks to feed puppies.

Here are the answers to your questions. Answers in all CAPS to make them easier to read.

1. Will she go into labor while I am sleeping during the night? MOST LIKELY. AND YOU SHOULD PLAN TO STAY UP WITH HER ON HER DUE DATE ANYWAY.

2. How can I tell how many pups she will have? X-RAY OR ULTRASOUND

3. Is it ok for me to try comforting her by rubbing her belly gently? DUH.

4. Will she make any noise when she goes into labor? MAYBE, MAYBE NOT. YOU'LL BE AWAKE WITH HER SO YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIGURE OUT WHEN SHE STARTS.

5. Is it possible to have a still born pup if she is healthy? YES. ESPECIALLY IN BREEDS THAT REQUIRE C-SECTIONS IF YOU WAIT TOO LONG.

6. She jumps sometimes up and down, usually when she is excited, Is this ok for her to do? SHE KNOWS WHAT SHE CAN DO. DON'T LET HER OVER DO IT THOUGH.

7. If she lays on her stomach on her own is this ok? REALLY? YES, SHE CAN LAY DOWN.

Why did you breed this litter?
All of these questions could have been answered by a little more research before you decided to breed.

Call you vet and make sure someone is available to do a c-section on Christmas eve, or schedule for the day before.
