I have a 16 year old 25 pound mutt. Until recently we have seen signs of aging- he has been deaf for a few years now, but in the last few days he has really deteriorated. At times when he walked slowly on our hard woodfloors he would slip ( kind of a moon walk, where his paws would just slide apart. But he would have high engery runs through the house and even had no problems walking up 13 stairs to our basement and back. He can't do any of this any more and even has trouble with his balance and walking on carpet. His tail has been down for 3 days and he seems dazed and confused. We would love to keep him around until my older children come how for Christmas, but we also don't want to see him suffer. Any suggestions.
I give him a baby asperine and some predinson, but it does't seem to make much difference.

Have you taken him to a vet.

Talk with your VET PLEASE!!!

You are NEVER supposed to mix NSAIDS (ASPRIN) with steriods (pred)

to do so can cause severe issues.. most notably Gastric upset (ulcers and perforation)

There are more effecive forms of pain management that the vet can prescribe that may be able to help.. there could be other issues neurological or systemic condions causing his problems too..

good luck..
