I have an English Bulldog mix, he is always terrified of everything. He has NEVER been hit or hurt. He is always jumpy and hides from everything, noises, strange objects, anything. If you put a new item in the living room he will stay downstairs, hes scared of it. Is there anyway to make him not so scared? He loves his family to death he loves giving kisses. But when he gets scared he tucks his tail and runs. No one has ever even yelled at him. I don't understand why he is so scared.

The first thing that comes to mind is breeding. Where did you get your dog? Did you meet the parents, other litter mates etc...? It may be genetic. If that's the case you may never be able to have an outgoing, confident dog. But you can do things to help. I would seek the help of a behavorist. If the problem is severe, they may even prescribe anxiety meds. They will also work with behavior modification for both you, your family and the dog. If the dog was well bred and you learn how to help the dog thru this they should outgrow it. I would also talk to your vet to rule out any health issues (poor eye site, hearing etc).

We actually rescued him. his mother was hit by a car and some people picked up the puppies that were found on the side of the road. which might be the reason why hes so scared. maybe hes afaid he might loose his family once again??
