A couple of days ago I noticed my dog (terrier/daschund) becoming very tired out of the blue. Since he wasn't improving, I took him to the vet. The vet didnt say what could be wrong but she said that:

1. She had problems taking blood - it was thin, but she eventually got enough
2. His white blood cell count is high
3. His temperature is normal
4. He wasn't producing any platelets

She gave him a shot (of cortisone I believe) and some prednisone.

I am very worried. Does anyone know what could be wrong and what I need to watch for or what i could do to help my dog?

We had the same thing happen with our lab. The vet didn't know what was wrong. His WBC was so off she said she had never seen that before and a dog still be alive. We still don't have word back from the last test results (hopefully today). But they said it's either a severe blood/bone infection or Leukemia. I would have your doctor run the blood work again and if it's that high still have her send the blood to a specialist and see what they think. This didn't cost us anything extra as the vet thought her machine was broken because his WBC was so high.
