The love of a dog...
You know you have the love of a dog so many times, in so many ways - last night was one of those sparkling moments of pure love. I went to the store, 45 minutes round trip, with three sets of watchful eyes over my favorite German Shepherd as she was showing all indications of going into labor within the next 24 hours. Upon my arrival, she greeted me lovingly at the door, waited until I was finished putting the groceries away and asked to go to bed. I obliged, opened the door to the bedroom and she promptly jumped into the whelping box, looked at me and immediately began to have contractions. I crawled in with her, reassured her, & helped her deliver her first pup at 11:20pm, I had only been home since 11:05. Coincidence? Perhaps... however, my son's female always awaits his return before she whelps a litter, and now, my favorite girl has done the same for me. I took a break from watching her, tending to her and loving her long enough to share with you the feeling of appreciation I have for being such an important part of her world, she is of course, as important in mine. I hope you have a dog to share this incredible bond with, it is amazing to truly know complete unconditional love, and even more amazing to be able to reciprocate it. My girl is the black laying with my other girls that I absolutely adore, she is just special! [PHOTO:0005]

Going home...
[PHOTO:0021] Well, it's been quite awesome to raise this litter. They were stunning from word go. Two have gone to their new homes already and we have already heard back about them, they have been to the vet, are settled in and they are progressing very well in their crate training. Two will remain with us until they are just under 6 months for training and raising the "MondouCu Way" and will go to their new homes with full house training, crate training, puppy socialization, and of course basic obedience. We have grown very attached to this litter. I am especially attached to Freya (the red collared female) she comes when called, she sits for attention, she makes direct eye contact, she is easy to work with and has already shown willingness to bite the tug and her grip becomes firm anytime there is pressure applied. She works well around the older dogs and is not phased by much of anything. I should not be ranting about her... the rest of the pups are wonderful, she just is one of those outstanding little pups that makes me so thrilled that we share our lives with our dogs.

6 weeks old
Aine's litter is now 6 weeks old - 7 weeks on Friday, December 12, 2008. There were 5 little girls born - 3 already have homes and they will be leaving us between 8 and 10 weeks of age. There is one solid black female remaining and one black & tan female remaining. They are incredibly healthy, learning to go "outside" and exploring the world. We are having an incredible time with this litter, they are so cute and wonderful to play with. Today, one of the little black females climbed into the lap of my son, sprawled out and crashed so hard that even when he picked her up to move her, she remained asleep. They are growing up wonderfully and are as sweet as can be. What a pleasant little group to know. I know their families are going to be so happy with them. I have included a photo of their dad.
