Between what ages are safe for a female yorkie to be bred and having puppies? I want to breed my 4 1/2 year old female.

4/23/10 Usually a 1 1/2 yr old to two year old is safe if they are large enough. Since yours is 4 1/2,if she has never had puppies, I would not do it. Her hip pelvic bones are quite set and she could have difficulty delivering puppies. Then a C section would be necessary which is expensive, and anesthesia can be dangerous for the Yorkie. They can reject their puppies after C section surgery and you would have to tube feed them every 2-3 hours including all night. It makes for many sleepless nights. That doesnt work well, and you may lose the puppies. You feel so sad and discouraged, and the mom does too. So its a totally risky proposition at this age. Lisa
