My Westie had begun chasing his tail--which we call spinning & snapping. Our Vet put him on tranquilizers -- but he seemed to not urinate as much while taking them. They did help. He is 16 months old. He usually does this when our cats are near. He does not have a good relationship with them. We keep them separated all of the time. He also does this when excited. Since taking him off the drugs -- he has become worse -- and he does make his tail bleed. He is a wonderful dog, and we really love him--but this can't be good for him.... Nancy

7/4/06 It could be him getting excited around the cat. I have had my westies and my cairns do this but its not out of hand just normal tail chasing. I wish you Luck WinterWestiesrwe
