In one book on Whippets it stated that Whippets has no enate illnesses, did the book tell the truth about this breed? And how cool is cool for the Whippet?

12/30/05 There are very few if any illnesses/hereditary defects that Whippets are prone to. The breed is very healthy as a whole and you'll hear of an occasional case of heart defect, deafness, or eye problem, but the incidence is no more common than that of the average dog population. As for cold temperatures and Whippets, they can tolerate temperatures below freezing for 10-15 minutes provided they are active and running around. As a good rule of thumb, if the dog is outside, shivering and wanting back inside, he's cold, let him in. Mary
