We adopted a 6-7 year old dog from a shelter 7/16/07. She appears all Samoyed but has the classic Chow tongue. She was fine at first (despite kennel cough), but over the last few days she has been snapping at people-including family who have been with her since we got her, especially since her veterinary visit. She did this at the vet who said that she was afraid and may be territorial and protective due to her chow mix. Her tail could be wagging and then all of a sudden she will stand up, back up, and bark at the person and snap (but doesn't actually bite and she definitely could have). We drove 9 1/2 hours to rescue her from euthanasia and love her already but we don't want to wait until someone gets bitten to do something about this. We previously had a purebred Samoyed for 15 years with no problems at all. We don't know if this is fear, separation anxiety, aggression, etc. Would training help? Her prior family said that she was excellent with children, cats and other dogs.
