It has been my experience that Shih Tzu love everyone, man or beast. My main concern for Shih Tzu with small childred, even though they are sturdy for their size, would be the welfare of the dog.

acquaint slowly and teach kids not to pick up pups. Tzus are great in a herd - dogs, kids, people - as long as they are introduced properly and not forced to be reactive. (ie, give em time, and protect from grabbing hands.)

I have 3 children that have been raised with shihtzus, you just have to keep the children seperate from the dog when your not able to watch them interact. we usually use a baby gate in that instance.they are wonderful pets and i wouldnt own any other breed

my experince with the shih-tzu being from the "Toy"group has been wonderfull this breed of dog gets along with everyone& everything!. alot of raising dogs with childern is common sense.The puppy can't tell you it's hurting as the child can.as per raising childern with dog's& puppies all breed's should have adult supervision for we forget that they are just animals!!
