My 5 mo. old shih-tzu began wheezing last week as if having an asthma attack. The vet examined her & said it was allergies. Put her on Hydroxyzine & Amoxil. After a few days, he switched to Prednisone since Hydroxyzine doesn't seem to help. It sounds as if she is very congested and can't get the congestion out. She is feeling some better but still wheezing badly. What can I do for her?

3/12/07 it's more nerves than illness, so I wouldn't over-medicate, please. If it's nervous-oriented, just rub under throat to calm, and if more extreme, put finger over nostrills and force her to breathe in through her mouth - Mine are like bad snorers sometimes, with that flap of skin really closing off the nostril flow....also, look to see that the nostril hole itself is really round and not flattened out and closing up when she needs air. That takes a tiny surgery to reopen and round out. Kate
