A Visitor asked the following question on 3/24/2011
If I were to get an electric fence for the Husky, would this be enough to contain him/her? I have a very big yard and putting a fence up would look terrible and take far too much time/money. Are Huskies able to respect the boundaries of an electric fence just as well as a real 6ft fence? From what I've researched so far, teaching them the boarders of our property doesn't seem like an option.

An electric fence with a shock collar will not work for a Siberian. If it sees a critter on the other side it won't matter. The shock will not stop the dog when it's chasing something. The problem will be that the dog having been shocked going out will not come back into the yard. If you really are serious about owning a siberian you really need to be able to have a fenced in yard. Teaching them the boarders of your property is NOT an option. You really need to consider a different breed.
