A Visitor asked the following question on 10/24/2010
Does anyone think it is ethical of a breeder to breed a dog that has seizures. I know of one breeder of Rhodesian Ridgebacks in Burleson Tx that is doing that exact thing. Lionhounds Simbayo Duncan has had seizures since he was a puppy. Cheryl Lantz (the breeder) will openly admit to it and there have been tons of people who have seen it and she still breeds this dog. She claims to have the best dogs, and tons of Champions, but they have all only been shown against her own dogs only. Plus she is also breeding another dog that has the worst temperment of any dog I've ever met and is from that same seizure having line. My question is...is that ethical to breed dogs with some of the most serious health problems a dog can have and doesn't that sound like a breeder who is only chasing a fast buck at the misfortune of the Ridgeback community? What can people do to stop this kind of irresponsibility?

11/3/10 The ethical behavior of this breeder is definitely to be questioned. Ethically she absolutely should not breed a dog with a known seizure disorder and it should be neutered. And dogs with agressive temperaments would also be culled from the breeding pool by all of the ethical breeders that I associate with. But, alas there are so many breeders who are only breeding for "money" and not for the betterment of the breed in health, conformation, performance and temperament. So buyers must learn to beware and to research before they buy. I tell homes that are looking to add a Ridgeback to their family to first verify if this breeder is a member of The Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of the US. As this club has and ethics policy that it's members sign to adhere to. THIS breeder mentioned IS NOT a member of RRCUS. Ask point blank how many of the breeders dogs are AKC Championed and to prove it. As most puppy buyers assume that the championships are AKC and that this is the pedigree they are Kathy
