I have a 26 lb. male pug who is gorgeous. He is just starting to become a stud dog and I'm wondering if his size will cause complications with female giving birth. The female in consideration is 17 lbs. This male is not fat at all-just taller, longer and more muscular. The only "very solid" male pug I've seen. He looks like he works out.

12/10/05 Breeding a much larger male to a female can cause whelping complications. There is a very good chance the puppies heads will be too large for her to free whelp the puppies. It would be ideal to stud him to a female his size or larger then his size. 26 lbs seems large for a Pug but hearing the weight as to seeing what he looks like is two different things. But definately I wouldn't breed a Pug that is 11 lbs larger then my female. Roseann
