A Visitor asked the following question on 8/2/2006
I know this may sound really stupid of me but, I just recently took a puppy of my friend who could no longer keep her. I was told she is about 8 or 9 months. I was told she already had her heat cycle and when I brought her home to my 3 year old male and that very day they got stuck. I know it is bad for her especially for her age. I am very concerned and don't know what to do. Thank you so much for your help!

8/3/06 8-9 months old is actually a little bit closer to the average time a toy breed has their first heat cycle. It likely that you will end up with a litter of pups. I highly reccomend making a vet appointment for about 4 weeks from now. They will be able to feel for puppies or you could opt for an ultrasound to be sure. Incase she is pregnant you should make sure you are feeding her a good quality puppy food and she should be on that until pups are weaned. You should also try to find books on canine pregnancy and "whelping" which is what the birth is called, they will help prepare you and you can keep them around for emergency reference. Good Luck!
