A Visitor asked the following question on 11/27/2007
I'm looking into buying a oes male puppy. the owner is not a breeder, just wanted to breed his dog twice. What are some questions I need to know to make sure I'm getting the puppy we want for my husband, a special Christmas gift. Buying one of these puppies are very expensive, i need someone who knows and is honest to answer my questions. For instance, how long does it take to find out if the puppies have blue eyes. If it is ok, to get the puppy before he is 8 weeks old. How hard is the puppy to train to be housebroke? What are some characteristics that I need to look for in a puppy and/or the mom and dad. Does the size or any other characteristics of the mom and dad, I need to know, might have on the puppy. Or where might I search on the internet for more answers and research. Thanks for your time and cooperation.

11/15/10 Hello, By 2-3 weeks you can tell what color the eyes are. It is best for the puppy to stay with the mom until they are 9 weeks old in my experience. Some breeder do let their puppies go at 8 weeks or earlier. Many States have laws that do not allow puppies to be sold before they are at least 8 weeks old. http://www.animallaw.info/articles/ovuspuppysaletable.htm Housebreaking any puppy takes time and patience on the owners part. Many breeders begin the process much prior to 8 weeks. Our puppies are 4 1/2 weeks old and are already paper trained and well on their way to being housebroken.
