After talking to several breeders and looking through a couple of books, I have heard that extra-large breed dogs do well in smaller homes or even apartments due to the fact that they do not require a lot of exercise. My fiance and I are considering buying a mastiff, but we live in an apartment. For those of you who own a mastiff, do you see this as a problem even if we walk it twice a day?

3/5/06 The apartment is fine for a mastiff, walks are great also, just be sure not to over do it on the walks. When mastiffs are young exercise is great for the body and the energy of the dog. Just be sure not to walk him too much while he is growing, you don't want to put to much stress on his growing bones and joints. And remember a mastiff craves human companionship, these guys love to be around the people that he owns! The apartment should not be a problem at all, good luck with your mastiff friend. Bill V Bill
