A Visitor asked the following question on 7/30/2004
of the labrador retriever? I have purchased a wonderful female, who is now 1 1/2 years old. I've spent a lot of time training her and she has already proven to me that her duck retrieving skills are only going to get better. I have had a lot of compliments on both her appearance and how well behaved she is. With that, I have been considering breeding her, but am curious to what the desired confirmation of labs are. I have seen the short blocky type, and the taller leaner type. My female is the latter, is there any preferred type and why?? Thank you!

Yes. The judges tend to prefer the blocky type Lab. There is a good book out called "The Ultimate Labrador." It gives breed standand and shows what a Lab should look like. The AKC should also have a listing of breed standard.
