hind legs seem to be giving out

This could be a problem called "Leg Calve Perthes" that can be found within this breed. It is a muscle disease that cause wasting away of the leg muscle, causing the legs to become unstable. I would take your dog to a veterinarian who can help figure out if this is the case or if it is something else.
