Hello! We have a 17 wk old female who has pink and black pads, palatte, and lower belly. She has black lips/eye lids, but also has a little pink area just below the nose outside the lip (like on the muzzle "cheek"). Also some pink just beyond the lip line. Should this deter us from breeding (or showing) after we extensively test for genetic defects/diseases? We think she is just perfect of course! :)

4/17/07 Your breeder should have a good idea of showability of a puppy from prior experience with their dogs, and I'd ask for their evaluation at several growth stages. Also sometimes pigment comes in, but a bit later in some cases and may be related to a lot of white to white breeding in the background. Sounds like the pigment isn't a problem really though (black splotches on the belly are normal and a good sign of pigment). Faye
