Hi, I have been considering getting a hunting dog and have basically narrowed it down to the Weim or GSP. Considering they are bird dogs and should therefore have high prey instinct, would it be possible for a GSP to live harmoniously with cats indoors? The general consensus I get from Weim people is that it's 50/50, with one person stating that they were actually trained to kill cats (or prey, not sure which now). I say indoors because my cats are never allowed outside. I would like to know what risks there are in raising a GSP around cats.

4/14/06 I know for a fact that GSP's when brought up as a puppy around cats get along fine there is no 50/50 deal they are all part of the family socialize with any animal will live together with no difference.. Older GSP's that have never had Cats in a house situation most can learn to tolerate each other cohabitance but sometimes it done work out at all. Cathy

4/17/06 I agree. It all depends on proper introduction. If introduced slowly and supervised there shouldnt be a problem. Modern day GSP's or Weims arent bred for fur any longer at least in this country. Carl
