What could be causing flaky, bumpy, scabby skin with an oder that is causing excessive ITCHING??

11/20/04 might be a low thyroid condition--common in Cockers. Have a vet check the thyroid. Or, might be an allergic reaction to ingredients in the dog's food. Cockers have sensitive skin but I've seen this problem in poorly bred Cockers. Vets can do food allergy testing on dogs but it can be expensive. Debbie

12/17/05 We have a male cocker who had a similar problem, he would always break out with bumps, from head to toe, we switched his dog food to Flint River Ranch and it helped a whole bunch. Their site is www.FRR.com. Dog food in stores these days are terrible. The vets push Science Diet only because they get grants from them. I would try switching to a better human grade dog food like Flint River. There are other holistic, natural dog foods out there. You just have to look! Amy
