From what I have experienced, the number of puppies seems to be more influenced by heredity from both sides, as long as they mated several times.....One line, Mother and daughters had 6-9 puppies. Another line, mother and daughters had 4-6 pupppies. This has followed through in all the lines I have breed. But, the male surely does factor in there also. I have one male who produces 1 to 3 puppies no matter who he is breed to.
