A Visitor asked the following question on 10/25/2004
I have a female Shar Pei who is 16 Months old and her eyes always water. She had an ulcer in her left eye when she was a puppy and the Vet tucked the eye. Now the Vet. said she needed both her eyes done (Surgery). When I took her it was a bad experience because he refused to do the surgery unless I agreed to have her fixed. Spayed. Help, do you have some advice.

10/31/04 It is not up to your vet to decide whether your dog should be spayed or not...you need another vet and I would tell him so. However, if your dog does have eye surgery, I would not use her for breeding. Entropian is a genetic fault in this breed and the last thing this breed needs is more health problems. Ellana

11/26/04 Many vets push the idea of spaying when a genetic problem arises. In my opinion she should be spayed. SUE

1/22/06 Dogs with eye problems other than tacking that require surgery should not be bred. However that is not your vets choice to make and I would look else where for health care on my animals! Crystal
