My vet will perform the surgry as soon as the testiscle drop.Which is around 5-6months some times sooner but vets may vary.

as soon as your dog is home it can be neutered...you do not need to wait for his testies to drop...if the surgery hinged on this then males who's testies never drop could not be neutered...WRONG>..he can be fixed safely as soon as your vet can calculate his weight to administer drugs safely to put him under.
