I've been told that these type of dog has a distinct smell that is pretty unpleasant. Is this true.

There are things you can do to help curb the smell of a Basset . Using a excellent but mild shampoo and Fresh n clean cologne fresh floral scent helps. I really stand by this product . It is wonderful .Also spraying their bedding can be helpful . It is said that a Basset does not need to be washed often .I think they should be washed at least once every 2 weeks .Mine get washed every week . Dogs can really enjoy a bath . Plus I like a clean dog . My poodles get washed at least once a week , too. Keeping away from really smelly dog foods can also help . Hounds do have a natural oil to their skin but with the dog cologne and frequent baths they can smell wonderful and look really cute .
