I have a Border Collie X. She has great energy and temperment. I have been asked to breed her so frends can have her pups. Once she has the pups we will be fine (i have cared for many bitches) but I have never bread a dog. I am looking for Border Collie reproduction info (time lines ie. heat cycle and gestation). thx

4/18/07 Every dog has the same gestation period which is 60 to 64 days. Your dog may have a heat cycle every 6 to 8 months . ( varies widly every bitch is different ) You should not breed her before she is two years old . Alesia

1/18/09 Firstly before you even think about breeding you need to be sure YOU are ready to accept the responsibility that comes with it. It is not just from birth to 8 weeks but you ARE RESPONSIBLE for these dogs genetic health for life. If one gets a genetic illness will you help the owners pay the bills? Have you health tested your bitch to make sure that she has no genetic disease that she will pass on to her puppies? Have you competed with her to prove that she is a dog that is OUTSTANDING compared to other dogs so should be bred. There are so many wonderful Border Collie X in rescues everywhere, why don't you suggest that your friends rescue instead of making more puppies and taking homes from the poor shelter dogs!? Laura K.
