Just wondering how we can fatten up our 10 month old border collie-cross. He is so energetic and burns off everything he eats. We feed him with 1 cup of PURINA dog chow and 1 cup of rice mixed with veges TWICE a day and he will not put on any weight. We are not sure what he is crossed with, maybe a skinny breed of something(he's short haired) and we want to make him a healthy kind of chunky, if you know what I mean. We'd appreciate any information you can provide. Kindest Reagrds Jacqui Thorpe

7/27/04 First off. Stopp feeding him Purina Dog chow and get him on a quality lamb and rice food. Second. Free feed him. Just keep a bowl full all the time. Border Collies do better if free fed. Some are naturaly skinny. But this dog is not getting fed right. Sincerely, Mac Sussie

1/20/06 I would first take him to the vet to have him checked. Make sure he is has a clear fecal. Sometimes a pup can be carry a bacterial infection or a protozona. ( Coccidia or Giardia ) Worms are not the only cause for a poor doer. I do agree with putting him on a high quality dog food. I use Pro Plan mixed with the frozen Bil-Jac. Most dogs love the Bil-Jac. I would fed him three meals per day if possible. You didn't mention if he has a good appetite or not. Warm the Bil Jac in the mircowave and mix it in the dry kibble. I would let him eat all he wanted for 15 minutes if he is a good eater. Free feeding works well will some dogs, but it can cause problems like picky eaters or a dog becoming obese. Good Luck! Kim Kim
