Desert Lotus Mastiffs Application
Greetings! This is an application for an Olde English Mastiff puppy. As a giant species dog can have it's own set of "issues", I believe in awareness before you make the decision to bring the big guys into your life. I also believe a sense of humour is a must in this crazy thing called life, so if I offend you, please forgive! This is designed more as a begining dialogue, not a test.

Answer the following questions and click Done when finished
(Questions marked with an asterisk * are required)
* I prefer homes where my babies will be used as service or full time companion animals/pets. But am very happy to place my babies in excellent homes as well, and folks who will consider showing etc., with good open introductory dialogue with me. What are you looking for your Mastiff to be/do?
* Have you ever owned a giant species dog before? If so, what breed/size?
* What type of critter family do you have now? (ie. cats, dogs, fish, birds, reptiles, boyfriends ;) )
* Briefly describe your family unit.. ie.. life partner, children, roommates.. and where you fall in. Are you head of household, child, pet? *s*
If you are planning on your new Mastiff as a service animal, please describe how they will serve? For you? As a convalescence visiting animal, a disAbled person's companion?
* Rate how important an immaculate home is to you.. low numbers being least important (I'm livin like a rock star!) - to highest number being spotless - ( June Cleaver is a slob next to me!)
* When you are dressing to go out, and your new best friend (Mastiff puppy) deposits what I affectionally call "gloobs" (slobber) on your silk black trousers.. issue or non issue? And, how will you handle it?
* Do you own or rent? If you rent, does your landlord permise your moving in a dog shaped horse?
* Have you and/or will you use crate training?
* Tell me a little about your nutritional plan for your Mastiff puppy. (This is not a test question, there are many schools of thought, each with great merit)
* Do you have a regular veterinarian, and are they well-versed in large animal medicine? If not, are you prepared to do some looking and question asking?
* Why did you choose Olde English Mastiff's?
* Are you prepared for the likelihood of your new Mastiff stealing your supper off the table, because they are tall enough? ;) Actually the question is, what sort of training are you planning on implementing? Formal obedience? You have had three hundred dogs, and know what you are doing? Showmanship? Agility? Slalom? Minimal training, you just want a big slobbery pet? ;)
* The first Mastiff I ever met had a 16 pound bowling ball for a toy, and could pick up, carry, and toss it! Are you prepared for an animal who needs considerably larger entertainment than a squeeky mouse.. and might take to the couch legs if it's not provided? (not a scare tactic ;) )
* Another scale question. How important is it to you that your knick-knacks (or anything for that matter) remain on your coffee table? Low number meaning.. I got it as a present from my ____ in law, and don't care to.. High number - it's from the Ming Dynasty, and worth more than I will ever make.
* If you answer yes to the above question about having children, how old are they, are they (generally) good with pets, and have they ever been bitten by dogs?
* Are you prepared to be stopped each time you take your new friend into public to answer: *gasp* What kind of dog is that? How much does it weigh? How much does it eat? Will it eat ME?
* Mastiff's tend to be a bit "emotionally needy". Not that they are going to be stealing your tissue box during Terms of Endearment, but they are very sensitive to your body language and moods. Tell me a bit about your demeanor, are you hot under the collar after a bad day, or a big bowl of jello in a crisis?
* Will your Mastiff travel with you?
Yes llllllll No
* How long, on the average, will your Mastiff be "home alone" in any given day / week?
* Tell me about your living space? Do you live in the country on a farm, in a white-picket-fenced 'hood, in a Park Avenue Penthouse?
* Where will your Mastiff be able to go in your home? If there are forbidden rooms or spaces.. like a room full of china, or a chemistry lab, or greenhouse full of poisonous plants.. How will you keep your Mastiff out? They are notorious for plowing through walls, when so motivated! Ever seen Turner and Hooch? Well Hooch isn't even the size of an English Mastiff! Yikes! ;)
* Are you prepared to be more in love than you have ever been in your life? Are you prepared for the most loyal and devoted friend you will ever have? If you answer yes, the rest of this is just education, awareness, patience, and an open mind. We definately need to talk!
Thank you for filling out this application, and your interest in my babies. If you are a Mastiff lover, or are looking to be, this is an amazing ride, and there is nothing like it! Unconditional love and acceptance in a big, warm, gloobery package! I look forward to visiting with you!

llllllll
