Snowlion Alaskan Malamutes
We are a small sledding and show kennel located in the mountains near Lassen National Park, CA. We rescued our first Malamute in 1978 and fell in love with the breed. After training sled dogs for 10 years and finishing three AKC champions, we felt confident that we had a good grasp of what should go into a well-bred Alaskan Malamute. So in 1989 we founded Snowlion Kennels. Our carefully researched breeding program focused on healthy, athletic dogs who live as family companions and share our mountain lifestyle: hiking, skiing, mountain biking and sledding. After 30 years, Snowlion Malamutes has become well-known worldwide with over fifty champions, an equal number of working titles, as well as many Best in Show dogs and specialty winners. Since we breed primarily for ourselves to produce an all-round Malamute for companionship, sledding and show, we pay particular attention to selecting confident, outgoing dogs who are structurally sound. Our dogs are bred to the AKC breed standard and we follow the recommended OFA screening for the breed: eye clearances, hips, and DNA testing for polyneuropathy. Our dogs receive regular veterinary exams and comprehensive blood panels- so we are sure they have healthy hearts and normal thyroid levels before running on teams or being used in our breeding program. All of our puppies receive veterinary exams before placement and we provide new owners with a great deal of information on how best to raise and train their puppies, as well as continued support for the lifetime of our dogs.
