Following are health screenings often performed on breeding Pointer adults; choosing a puppy from a breeder who tests parents for health can help avoid future health problems in your puppy:
CERF Screening (Canine Eye Research Foundation)
Hip Dysplasia (OFA or PennHIP)
vonWillebrand's Disease (vWD) (factor antigen test)

Three female puppies are available from our litter of eight (six females and two males) born March 31, 2008 out of Brett and Boone. We don’t breed often; this is our first litter in five years! Visit www.birdsborodogs.com to see the parents and go to http://www.flickr.com/photos/birdsboro/ to see the puppies (click on “Collections”). We breed dual purpose (show/field) Pointers from Scanpoint lines. Our Pointers are bred for sound health and temperaments. Boone has had his hips certified as OFA good. Brett has preliminary hip films that are good/excellent (films will be submitted to OFA when she turns 2 years old). Both parents have also had cardiac work-ups and have not had any health issues. The parents, and our lines as far as we know, are free of seizures and allergies (both problems in the breed). Our Pointers are beautiful and hunt close... they are great for foot hunters that want a good family dog. They also make great pets if you don’t hunt, but like other activities (like hiking, the dog park, Frisbee, agility, therapy dog, etc). They are great with kids, other dogs, and cats. Boone is a Champion in the show ring, but the field is his true love. He comes from a great line of field and show dogs. He is a great hunting buddy (for actual hunting), and also has his Junior Hunter title. He is broke (steady to wing and shot). Boone placed third in Amateur and fourth in Open in the field trial at the American Pointer Club National in September 2007. This is the only field trial he's been entered in since he was a puppy! Most of all, he loves being a pet though. He’s a great dog park dog, loves to play Frisbee and swim, and is my best buddy. Brett placed fourth in the Puppy stake at the same field event, and won best female puppy in match (a fun event with about 30 puppies entered). Brett is halfway towards her show Championship (she has 6 points and a major) with limited showing due to my vet school schedule. She is 1/4 field bred (including a National Champion) and 3/4 show/field bred. Like Boone, she’s a natural hunter and great family dog.
